Fight Like Apes The Stables ClubTuesday WK 2 (September 15th)
8pm til late | €7
This is going to be a good one, a great one, an exercise in going buck ‘APE’ ( get it?!) to one of the hottest Irish bands around. Check that, two of the hottest bands around.
Here’s why; Fight Like Apes are a unique force on the Irish Music Scene, melding a mix of manic energy, biting guitars, powerful punchy vocals from super – frontwoman MayKay, synths, samples, bass and banging drums into something rather mental but utterly beautiful. Watching F.L.A is a special experience that makes you want to jump around as much as they do, while looking around for a medic such is the risk that they will hurt themselves. Their guitars certainly get a bashing. Proper rock n’ roll! In the relatively short time they have been together F.L.A have been nominated for Choice Music Prize for their debut album, Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion which also landed in the Irish Top Ten and they were asked to support The Ting Tings and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs on their U.K tours, often upstaging the main act while on the road. Not bad going for a group that have only been together for a couple of years. With all this touring experience under their belts, at home and abroad, expect something special on Wednesday night in The Stables Courtyard because Fight Like Apes will bring it.

Walter Mitty & The Realists are a Limerick based foursome with the musical goods to go all the way. Winners of Indie Week Canada 2008, The Mitty’s have just released their debut record, Green Lights Go, produced by The Cranbe rries Fergal L awlor, who also sang and played drums on plenty of the tracks ( he just couldn’t resist getting in on the Mitty musical action ) expect big things from this great rock / new wave / punk collective. Walter Mitty & The Realists live are in a word, awesome. They make me wish I’d learnt to play the guitar or could fit into jeans as skinny. Holding nothing back, I have in other times and places described their energy on stage as “semi-psychotic’ and I meant it in the best possible way! Walter Mitty & The Realists are playing inside The Stables Bar in association with U.L Music Society. See you up front for a jump around.
