Close to double platinum album sales. Support slots with Kasabian and Kaiser Chiefs. Two sold-out headline shows at the Dublin Ambassador. A Meteor win for Best Live Act. Over their four years together, The Blizzards have achieved one of the most impressive rises to the top. A Public Display Of Affection's platinum success speaks for itself – though it doesn't hurt to mention that the punk pop anthems 'Trouble', 'Miss Fantastia Preaches' and 'Fantasy' were three of the biggest singles of 2007, both in terms of sales and radio play. Yet the group are down-to-earth enough to know that there's always room for improvement, which they've addressed head on with their blistering sophomore album Domino Effect. Indeed Domino Effect shows a tight band that knows how to play to their strengths. Once again under the steer of godlike producer Michael Beinhorn, the man behind Red Hot Chili Peppers', Hole's and Soundgarden's seminal albums, there's more tongue-in-cheek humour and falsetto harmonies to be enjoyed. Always electric, tight as the government when it comes to third level education and a lot more fun The Blizzards are set to deliver a full on party to celebrate the opening of the Boathouse. The guys can wonder at the accomplished musicianship while the girls ( and the guys ) can check out Bressy. Had to be said, I knew ye were all thinking it!

In support are another brilliant Irish band in the shape of one Delorentos, who released one of the most hotly anticipated Irish albums of 2007, In Love With Detail, on nascent Irish independent label Cottage on 20 April. The band drifted together in the usual fashion, inspired by boredom, creative energy, and a passion for music - obvious reference points are Pixies, The Cure, The Clash and Arcade Fire; more oblique influences slide in from most genres of music and virtually every decade from the 50s onwards. Over a period of time that saw others attempt to tie down a description of their sound, they holed up in the wilds of Portrane, Co Dublin, an amazing place to make music and a key factor in the Delorentos sound, and concentrated on writing songs, pure and simple; for them it has always been about 4 people communing to harness honest emotion, fashion melodic hooks, and roll out infectious rhythms. They tested the water on the live circuit and immediately stood out as a band capable of pulling off fresh, gutsy live performances. Since then they have become one of the best bands on the live circuit, delivering an enchanting sound with an enrapturing live show.
