Union Achievements

2009/10 saw the Union...

  • defeat the reintroduction of third level fees as part of a nationwide campaign with other Students' Unions.
  • open a second shop in the Cappavilla Student Village.
  • expand the bike scheme by giving it a permanent location in the old SU shop.
  • re-brand RAG Week to create Charity Week and received full support from the University on this.
  • launch Meitheal na Mac Léinn (MnM's) during Charity Week. The MnM's worked from 8pm - 4am in the off campus estates and made sure students got home safe, enjoyed their night and didn't upset the local residents.
  • continue campaiging for improvement of the University pitches.
  • launch a module and lecturer evalation system.
  • continue fundraising throughout the year for the RAG Charities as well as many other special causes.
  • pick up four Student Media Award shortlists; Website of the Year, Newspaper of the Year, Layout & Design of the Year (An Focal) and Editor of the Year.
  • win the People's Choice Award for fortnightly newspaper, An Focal.
